Default Date for a nuchal

Well AF is nearly 2 weeks late so I've done a test and got a BFP. With Sam I didn't test till 13 weeks pregnant so missed the opportunity for a nuchal. Don't want to miss out this time so can someone tell me, is the optimum time to have a nuchal 12 weeks from the first day of your last period or 12 weeks from the date of conception (approx 2 weeks later)? Obviously I realise its early days and I might not get that far...

Oh congratulations Ruth, great news I had my nuchal at 11wks it was good and scan pics really clear. I think it's between 10-13wks not sure if there is an optimum time in between those weeks. It's not weeks from conception it's no weeks pregnant so if AF Iis 2wks late you are now 6wks pregnant so can have a scan in 5wks time.
Take care Becxxx

Congratulations Ruth!!!

Is your cycle regular? If so you should be around 6 weeks now as Bec says. The dates are usually worked out from your last period.

I had my nuchal scan last week when I was 11 weeks 6 days. They do the scan between 11 weeks and 13 weeks 6 days, so you will have a bit of time to get one sorted out .

I was told last week that the closer you are to 11 weeks the better, but having said that I only had my nuchal with Sam when I was about 13 weeks 4 days and the result was fine. Once you pass the 13 week 6 days stage they reckon it is too late as the baby is then a bit too big for accurate measuring.

I can highly recommend the Fetal Medicine Centre in London as a place to go for this scan. They are brilliant and are world leaders in this field. http://www.fetalmedicine.com/fmc/

Let us know how you get on!

Congratulations Ruth on your BFP.

I agree with Mrs Bear that the Nuchal is done between 11 weeks and 13 weeks and 6 days. I was exactly 13 weeks when I had my scan done at the Fetal Medicine Centre. It is calculated from the date of your last period, but unless you have a textbook 28 day cycle it isn't always that accurate. I have a long cycle and didn't know exactly when I ovulated, so I had an early scan to find out exactly how many weeks I was and I booked my nuchal scan at the Fetal Medicine Centre, based on that.

I should have been 12 weeks and 3 days for my Nuchal appointment, but after my NHS dating scan they put my dates ahead by 4 days which made me 13 weeks when I had my Nuchal. I did try to bring my appointment forward a week at the Fetal Medicine Centre but they couldn't fit me in, but luckily they can do it up to 13 weeks and 6 days. I was a bit worried when I went to the Fetal Medicine Centre in case their scan made me futher ahead again and I wouldn't have been able to have the Nuchal, but luckily they made me exactly 13 weeks, so I was able to have it done.

Good luck with your pregnancy.

Love DebbieX

Thanks for the congrats and info. My cycle is a regular 28 days and working out my dates from that I see that, if this pregnancy proceeds successfully, I can have the nuchal before I return to work from my current maternity leave. Very handy.

Thanks for the info about the fetal medicine centre, I am very tempted by them but I would like DP to come with me and a round trip to London would take a whole day and I don't know anyone we could ask to have Sam for that long without telling them why (I like to keep my pregnancy a secret - last time I didn't tell my work till 24 weeks, my mum till 26 weeks and DPs parents till 28 weeks). I presume with them having to take such careful measurements they don't let you take a noisy toddler into the room?
