Default Discussing Down Syndrome

I am not too sure where to post this but I just wanted to say that although I'm no expert on the issues which have touched our life, I have experienced quite a lot along the way and I am still learning all the time.
Sometimes it's good to share and I know only too well some of the concerns which Mums, especially older Mums, have when thinking of becoming pregnant a little later in life.

I would never presume to make judgement or offer advice or guidance, as everyone finds their own way through but if ever anyone wants to chat about my personal experience, if it would be useful then I'm happy to share.

I didn't find it very easy to share in the beginning for various reasons but over the past few years ( mainly through fighting for our Jen's needs etc ) I've participated in joint training with professionals who are in the lives of disabled children and I now deliver training myself with other Parents directly to professionals.

It took me a long time to create but I've recently made an audio/visual presentation of my diagnosis etc. it only runs for a few short minutes but is quite powerful and challenges the way that (some) professionals communicate with us Parents....in a way that makes them think. I don't want to 'beat up' professionals here, but I think that together we can learn better ways of delivering services.

If Admin could re direct this I'd be grateful.....I just appreciate how much of a 'taboo' subject Down Syndrome can be and if it helps anyone then I'm happy to share..

Lilli x

what we could do with is a child with disabilities thread on its own that

I think your right it is a subject people find hard to talk about, so thats a great offer to help people and let them hear your side of things.

Ann, great idea about a new area.
