Default grrrrrrrrrrr health visitors

i got a call from my hv this morning at 8.00am
as i havent taken ali to the baby clinic since he was born (personally i cant stand the places and did tell her when she came when he was 13 days old i had no intention of taking him to the clinics unless i had a problem) she insisted that she come today , to see ali and weigh him, that last time he was officially weighed he was 13 days old and weighed 7lb 15oz
however we have weighed him on our scales holding him and although they are not accurate i at least know that he has gaind weight so have not been worried about him

whats annoyed me is

i have an appointment tomorrow to have my post natal and ali's check up and his first set of jabs so they will weigh him then anyway,

and also i had plan's to go out today and when i told the hv this she was extremly insistant that she see ali today, and was quite abrupt and rude about it so i agreed after a while of explaining i had an optitions appointment at 12 that i would stay in until after she had been, meaning now i have to walk up the town instead of getting a lift this morning with a friend, the hv was supposed to come at 10.15am and still no sign of the damm woman

also if its to check up that im a fit mother ect havent they left it a bit late, i could of beaten or starved him by now, he's 8 weeks old nearly for gods sake. no wonder so many poor babies are slipping through the net when they are mistreated,

so is this visit just to fill in the baby book so when the doctor see's it tomorrow it show's she has been out i wonder,

still it will be interesting to find out how much ali does weigh now,

thats if she does turn up, watch this space says i getting more and more annoyed by the second,

love ann

I think you should just go out any way Ann, you don't have to see your HV except for the milestone checks, and if he's seeing the Dr for his "6 wk" check and vacs tomorrow I don't see why she is making such a fuss. You are perfectly within your rights to refuse to let her see him except at these times!

Why are some HV's so daft??

Hmmm, can she really demand to see you today? I would have point blank said no. I did go to the weekly weigh in as it was a nice place and friendly people and I enjoyed meeting other mums, but that was the real reason I went. I knew he was putting weight on so no real need to go. I sort of thought it was a service if you wanted it, not compulsary?

Well I hope she dosnt waste any more of your day, if shes not there by the alotted time just go out!

Ann,

Hope she's either been by now or you've gone out

I go to the baby clinic every 3 weeks as my friends Mum works there and one of the nursery nurses has been so kind to us as a family that I like to see her too

Oh yes and of course to get Jack weighed

I don't particularly like my HV, she's too wishy washy and vague, the nursery nurses at the surgery are so much more helpful

I can understand why you are annoyed and yse I bet she just wants to fill the book in before tomorrow.

love Clare xx

well she still hasn't turned up i ended up calling the optitians and re arranging my appointment,
now im slowly seething with anger.... god help the woman when she does get here

and yes i know i was within my rights to refuse to let her come but then you never know what they put on the records ect, its not that i have anything to hide it was just inconvienient if you know what i mean, i shall tell her when she does come that i will only be taking ali for his development checks as and when needed the same as i have done with alex, its not even as if they do the jab's there as they are done at the doctors, our clinic is basically useless, you have to take a number and wait for ages if you want the hv to weigh the baby or want to discuss any problems, or you weigh it yourself in a seperate room, write the weight in your book and then sign their form to say you have been, its not like the baby clinic i used to take my older one's to which was more of a friendly meeting place. there arn't even any toys in the waiting room for toddler's to play with it's just an annex of our local cottage hospital that the hv's use once a week on a friday,

love ann

still waiting ..........

Ann.

The HV has no right to demand to see you or your son.

Tell her so.

Hmmm, it does seem that HVs are fairly universally useless!

The ones at our clinic don't seem to have much of a clue about anything - as long as your baby's gaining weight, they're happy - even if he or she has two heads!!!!!!

I was told to take Max to be weighed and measured a couple of days before his and my 6 wk check - "so the doctor will have up to date information to refer to". However, when I pointed out to the HV that her measurements meant Max had grown 3cm in length in 2 weeks (!!) she said "oh well, the doctor can always recheck the figures at your check up". Drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

well she's gone now with a flea in her ear i had strong words with her especially as she was so late, and she wont be back until ali is a year old for his developent check
basically the urgency was as i had guessed to get my book upto date for when i take ali for his check up and jab tomorrow,

on the plus side my little porker now weighs 13lb 9oz and is 61cm long so he's a growing lad. he was only 7lb 9oz and 50 cm long when he was born

she was still quite rude when she arrived and spoke down to me like i was some silly teenage mum who had never had any children and she had a moan that i hadnt been to the clinic at all never mind only a few times, i told her polietly my point of view and she reluctantly agreed that there was really no need for me to take ali to the clinic,
i told her that i have started giving ali a couple of spoonfulls of baby rice in the evening and she agreed that with his weight ect that he might need it to help him sleep longer at night, DOH I KNEW THAT, WHY DO YOU THINK I FED IT TO HIM apparently the main reason they dont recommend weaning until 6 months now isnt so much because of allergies as baby rice is actually allergenic free it's because of the government guidelines on obsenity
apparently there are a lot of cases where some people are starting early and by they time the baby is 4 months old they are feeding them to much she said she's had a case of someone feeding their baby 2 wheatabix in the morning, or making home made food for them and basically overfeeding the baby and then their tummies stretch so they want more food and thats making them fat, and if people stick to the amounds supplied in jars ect then the kids will be fine, as they are the recommended amounts of food, funny thing is even when i fed jars to my others i dont actually remember them finishing off a whole jar when they were first starting out, i used to throw away so much food it was a waste of money so i prepared smaller amounts of my own grub for them anyway,

love ann
