Well, ended up at the Docs last nite as once again we had the coughing and sicking up. This time he'd not even finished his dinner when he coughed and started vomiting. It was very scarey because obviously all the food was still quite solid-ish and cos he was sat in the high chair he couldn't get it out of his mouth, couldn't breath thru his nose and in the end was going red in the face and choking. I had to tip the high chair forwards (quicker then removing the tray and undoing the harness) and put my fingers in his mouth to pull the food out. All over very quickly and he was fine but DH said enough is enough call the doctor now.

I am lucky as they fitted us in at 6.30. Doc checked him over said his chest was clear but I said this cough is becoming a real issue especially if he can't keep his dinner in him, and worse at nights. I spoke about cough medicines for babies and he weighed him and has given us paediatric pholcodine.

Can't say I noticed much difference last nite but maybe it takes a while - he had a major coughing fit at 1.30 am so I had him in with me for an hour or so, then he was fine and slept till 7.30 am.

Hi,

eeek, very worrying when they appear to be choking. I think that a Mum's nightmare. Glad you've got something however I feel it's only time that will help. Josh has been like this - seemingly always full of colds which sound terrible at night. GPs say they can get 12 colds a year - each lasting start to finish 10 days so it feels as if it's constant.

Tough when you have to function at work however!!

I think we had something similar. Gianna had a cough solid from Jan. through April. Only now is it gone.

I chalk it up to the nursery. My ped. told me children in nursery get 12 colds a year and so far its been true for us.

We gave her a pillow to raise her head and have never removed it.

Also, a drink of water seemed to stop Gianna's coughing fits which really only got bad bad at night. She got used to it though and still wakes up occasionally for it but I don't mind. She used to cough so hard I was always afraid she would vomit. With the water, she would take a drink and go back to bed as if she never truly woke up. It seemed to be our only help.

To me four months of cough seems ridiculous. You have my sympathy!
