Thumbs up How to keep your child safe on the internet (e-book)

Wendy Davies is a visitor to Mothers 35 Plus and author of a new 'e-book' called "How To Keep Your Child Safe On The Internet - the Essential Step-by-Step Guide for Every Parent Whose Child Has Internet access."

Wendy is an Honours Graduate in Psychology and French from Scotland's St. Andrew's University; also a mother of two children aged 15 and 10, both of whom spend time on the internet.

Chapters in her book include:
  • Introduction
  • Chatrooms
  • Instant Messaging
  • Social Networking
  • Blogs
  • Online Learning Communities
  • Personal Websites
  • Newsgroups
  • Email - Spam - Viruses
  • File Sharing
  • Inappropriate Websites & Pornography
  • Bullying
  • Buying Online
  • Gambling
  • Gaming
  • Trust & Misinformation
  • Plagiarism
  • Passwords
  • Identity Theft
  • Software
  • Health - Too Much Time Online?
  • Simple Rules for Keeping Your Children Safe
  • Creating a Family Code
  • How To Recognise If Your Child Might Be At Risk?
  • A Brief Guide to Internet Use For Children of Different Ages
  • A Final Word
  • References, Resources & Further Reading
I have been sent a hard copy of this book and, although sceptical at first that it would contain anything that wasn't just plain common sense - sorry Wendy (!) - I found it to be very informative. I will definitely be going through the book with my son, Josh (aged 10).

Wendy's book is available to download for $19.97, which works out at around GBP £10.00 (currency conversion rate at 2008.05.28 16:14:30 UTC). Payment is secure as it's done through PayPal and I think it represents excellent value for money, given the information it contains.

You can read more about the book and buy it here.
