Default Potty regression?

After potty training with no prompting when she was 21 months (4 months ago) Phoebe seems to have stopped caring about where she wees. I am changing her pants and trousers about 4 times a day, not to mention mopping up puddles! She is still brilliant about pooping on the potty, and will come and ask for it or go and get it and get on with it, but wees seem to catch her unawares more often than not!

She has been brilliant up til about a week ago, and suddenly, unless I ask her constantly, (and sometimes even when I do!) she'll just wee in her pants and then come and tell me she's wet. I don't think she has a wee-infection as it's not strong smelling or anything, but I will take a sample to be tested if it doesn't stop soon.

I'd put her back in nappies except she'd fight tooth and nail and none of her clothes will fit over them now!!

Has anyone else had a sudden wee-regression?

Jenny

Hi Jenny,

I haven't had this problem, but I remember one of the carers at the nursery saying that a lot of children have this. It's like they start to forget once the novelty has worn off and they have to retrain. Sorry, I haven't any advice but just to say I think it's quite common.

I'm totally baffled on this one the only thing i can think of is as you say it might be a wee infection

if it comes to it i know its not the green option but can you not try pull ups they fit better under clothes as are not as bulky as Nappie's

personally i would perceiver as i hate putting them back in nappies once you have got them out of them.

ok strange off the wall suggestion but how about always with wings inside the knicker's lol I can remember years go being out with on of mine and ran out of nappies late at night on a trip, the only thing i could get was a ST from a machine in the motorway loo's as it goes it worked well enough to get me home

yes i know shut up Ann your no help lol

We had this, I posted on here about it she did so well in the begining and then all of a sudden started wetting all the time she even pood herself. I put it down to attention seeking and wanting to be naked because she loves nothing better than to play around the house starkers . Mainly this was never done anywhere but at home, at nursery she never did it and if I went out shopping with her she didnt, so it was for my benefit at home where she knew I would have to strip her off and clean her up. She has stopped now and the only time she does wet is if she really is desperate and doesnt make it on time and then it is only a dribble or if she misjudges the loo seat ( she doesnt use a potty or trainer seat any more) she did this today and it all went down her leg yet another excuse to strip of

No advice though cuz we just rode it out till she stopped

Thanks Janice and Deb, I think it is a "novelty" thing, and she is a champion Streaker, loves to be all bare, so I'll just wait for things to sort them selves out and keep asking. (She never does it at nursery, rarely has accidents there) She has only ever had one poo accident, and that was when we were in the park and she was squatting down to look at something, when she stood up she'd suddenly grown a little tail inside her knickers, it was very funny!!

Oh Ann, you are funny!!!

I'll keep an eye on it and if it starts to smell at all I'll whip a sample into the GP, but other than that keep her clothed and reminded every 15 minutes!!!

Cheers!!!

Jenny

Just to update on this;

We had a few accidents whilst we were on holiday, and because my mum was worried about the carpets she was a little "over enthuiastic" about putting Phoebe on the potty, (to be honest she was basically forcing her onto it and really nagging) that now 9 times out of 10 when you ask Phobe is she wants to wee or offer her the potty she says no and runs away. And then wees 30 seconds later.

We did discover whilst we were away that she had thread worms, so I do wonder if that was the reason it all started in the first place, but now we have a bad habit to break. She even had a couple of accidents (after saying she didn't want the potty) at nursery this week, so it really has become a pattern.

I'm really quite cross with my mum, I know she was trying to make sure there were no stains on the carpet of the holiday cottage, but she was really "on one" about it, and I'm sure it has made Phoebe worse. Today I have resorted to putting a nappy on her, I am still asking her if she wants to wee etc, but I'm not making a big deal about it, after all, she's only 25 months old, so very young to be potty trained in the first place. I am hoping that if we can leave it a few days and let her relax about the whole thing we can re-introduce the potty soon. The funny thing is she still poops on the potty, very happily, so I am hoping that she won't be long before she's happily weeing on it again.

Sigh.........

Well, last night she spiked a temp of nearly 39, so I took a wee sample to the Dr's this morning and sure enough she is backon anti-biotics.

She is back in knickers today and so far, no accidents, I'm just going to play it by ear I think.

Jenny what a shame.

She is a clever wee thing to be toilet trained so young. Amber was 2 and a half during the day and 3 at night and 2 and a half for Sarah day and night.

Hopefully once the anti biotics kick in she will be fine again (it probably didnt help with your mum forcing her onto the potty over and over) - I suppose she was worried incase of "accidents" this might have made your little one go the opposite way.

I hope she is ok again soon

Lucy is 3 next week and still hasn't used the potty or the tiolet!
One thing I have tried is Bright bots pants, they are like normal pants but have an absorbant lining, they need to be changed straight away if soiled but can help prevent carpet/furniture soiling. Useful at times of illness or regression.

BTW I've talked to my HV about Lucy and they said it's not considered a problem unless they are not trained by 5 yrs!!

What a shame about your mum forcing it like that - I'd be annoyed too! It might all improve again once the antibiotics work and the memory of the holiday fades.
