Who else is looking for Employment?

Hello Girls,

Just wondered how many of you or your dp's or dh's are looking for employment at the moment?


As you know dp is looking for a Operational Managers position, what about the rest of you?

My dh is also looking - he's a solicitor, conveyancing, but also does probate.

However, the market is so dire he's applying for jobs that aren't in law as well!

I have to look for a new contract, was really hoping to get one from next week but nothings come through so very doubtful now.

He's been looking at managerial roles, as he also did management in his solicitor roles (head of conveyancing dept etc).

He is not in work at the moment, so it's getting quite urgent that he finds something as you can imagine!

Hi Judy,
Yes, he's registered with some agencies too, and has his cv in as many places as he can. He was recently offered a 9-month probate contract - but it was in Norwich! That is about 5 hours drive from us, so impossible to commute, and we just couldn't afford the accommodation (never mind how much we would all hate him being away throughout the week!)

5 hrs away! You have to draw the line somewhere, even in this market!

We are finding Reed Employment agy quite pro-active.

However, applying for jobs on-line is quite depressing; I am sure some of those jobs they put on just don't exist!

Reed have been awful for me!! First of all they asked for the money for my CRB, okay fair enough, then I didn't hear for four months so sent snotty e mail requesting money back. Got a call from a woman who I just hated the sound of - you know, when you just KNOW you wouldn't like this person! - anyway, she was fairly 'off' with me, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. Got my crb, but heard no more from them until last week, when she called and offered me some most bizarre and unsuitable work which I politley declined - then she decided I was 'highly unlikely' to get a management post, unless I was willing with wotk with elderly dementia patients! Sadly, I a) have no qualifications or experience with this group and b) I don't think anyone would want to manage such a home for £8.00 an hour. Or am I, as she suggested, being too choosy???? Another agency, Venn, have actually been quite helpful, but they still keep asking me to work with elderly mental health patients in such places as Stevenage or harlow, which is just impractical - again for under £9 a hour. Have signed up for 4 or 5 more, but they haven't even got in touch, so I personally don't feel they are that good - probably in other areas they're great, but not in what I'm qualified for!!
