Present from new baby?

HI all,

Please can I pick your brains? I'm trying to think of a present to get Rob from the new baby. I'm a bit stuck! There's nothing obvious that springs to mind - he's not madly into any one kind of toy. He loves the outdoors, plants, creatures etc, but at not quite 2.5 the choices on that front seem a little limited. (He already has a kid's garden tools set!)

I also don't want to spend £££ if I can avoid it.

Any ideas gratefully received!

What a great idea! I never did that with any of my kids but when you mentioned it I wished I had

That being said I did a quick Google search and the keepsake album at Amazon "LOOK WHO'S GOING TO BE A BIG BROTHER" seems like it would be fun. Of course I love pictures and take a zillion each year, so that's why I would have picked something like that... though it might not be your thing!

If he loves the outdoors, you can get ant farms, and butterfly growing kits. Poppy had the butterfly thing last summer. You get 5 caterpillars, which eventually turn into butterflies. It's fab! (although Rob may be a bit young?)
How about a picture book about bugs?

(On the big brother theme, you can also get t-shirts which say 'I'm the big brother', can't think where i've seen them? maybe Mothercare?)

When DS2 arrived he got DS1 a Lego Duplo Fire Station (he loved Fire things at that time) but it is still something the other two play with now and DS1 still remembers it being from his new brother , they can be a bit pricey but it has lasted well.

When our new baby arrived I got our son Rob a present from her, it was a little train waiting in her hospital cot when he came to visit her for the first time! He loved it and thought it was from the baby. It really helped to introduce her, as it were!

How about a little kit to grow some sunflowers? This is the time to sow them and then get them in the ground. You could plant the seeds now and then give him them when they are little green seedlings ready to put out! (when baby is due, in about 5 weeks?) Just an idea anyway.

Hi all! Thanks for the suggestions. Mouse, I like the sunflower idea. I'd actually wondered about getting him a small tree in a pot (one of those dwarf pines or similar) as he loves the ones outside the nursery front door, and always says hello/goodbye to them on a nursery day! And Lisa's suggestion of a picture book about insects sounds good too.

Own gardening kit" Mine have always enjoyed having their own little watering cans and you can get some nice "posh" ones if you don't fancy a plastic cheapy!

Is he into any TV/characters? Inly say, cos I always avoided "character" presents like the plague, thought they were a short lived waste of £££, but when ds was born we gave dd a Paddington BEar, which she treasures - still not playing with all the time but knows it's significant. Ds's best presents ever have been 2 of the Gups from Octonauts...which has really surprised me - they have played and played.

Or something for outside, like a sandpit, that he can play with with the baby in a couple of years?!
