Dear Ann

Ethan had really bad jaundice at birth to the extent where we weren't allowed home. You need to get Ali in as much natural light as possible [as long as he's not in direct sun or too hot] and he needs to be feeding every two to three hours at least [even if it means waking him up to feed him] - the more feeds you can get down him the better. [I've seen your post regarding your lack of breast milk - it could be stress from your experience in hospital or it could be down to your C section possibly - no firm advice there I'm afraid as I'm a bf failure]. Try and get as much of his skin exposed to natural light as possible without freezing him to death which hopefully isn't an issue with this weather.

Hope the MW has had some good advice for you by now. Ali may need a blood test to check his bilirubin levels and if they're too high there is a chance he may have to go under the UV lights either with a Billy Jacket at home or possibly even back to hospital [bet you'd love that - NOT].

Keep us posted.

with love

Golly, sorry to hear about this. Hope Ali is getting better soon as last thing you need is to go back to hospital.

Let us know how things go won't you.

Love

Ann,
Daniel had jaundice too when he was born. The midwife advised me to keep him in as much natural light as possible. She did say if he didn't improve then he would need to go into hospital to go "under the light". However, I took him out every day, and by the time I was discharged by the midwife when he was 10 days old, there was absolutely no sign of the jaundice at all.

Hope this happens with Ali too,
Sharon.

Ann

Both Emily and Jessica had slight jaundice and it was due to lack of breast-milk. Neither of them were latching on correctly and I was told that my nipples are the wrong size..!!

Once I got them both onto formula and was able to get them out in the sunshine for a short while, their colour came back and the liver was able to flush fluids normally.

Hope it isn't anything too serious.

By the way, I love the piccie of your two boys together. I have a new one of Jessica and Emily which I must get Dp to scan today. Jessica absolutely adores Emily and vice versa with Emily looking for Jessica as soon as she hears her voice. Just hope it stays that way..!

Take care

Joy

Ann,
Both my sons had jaundice...Quin (15 yrs ago) had to go back into the hospital and under the UV lights for a couple days until his billirubin levels came down, but Caleb on the other hand had a slighter version and under the visiting nurse's suggestion we exposed him to as much natural (but indirect) light as possible. This meant placing his bassinet next to a bright and indirectly sunny window while stripping him down to nothing but a diaper. This did the trick and within a day his color was back to normal.

Hope things sort out quickly for Ali (and you !)
((((hugs for you)))) and (((cuddles for Ali))))
luv Dawn

well midwife had been shes marked him down as moderate jaundiced and said what i thought half hour in sunlite with his face in shade and to keep him stripped weather permitting and in daylight indoors, i have to feed him every two hours day and night as he's a poor feeder anyway, she's checked me out and agree's i have No milk at all and we cant stop the bottles as he needs the milk to help flush the jaundice, she's coming back on thurday to check him again and make a decision then, if i do have to take him to the hospital it will be for blood tests and uv light but will be a day trip not admitted, so i thinki can handle that, hopefully it wont be needed, thanks for the advice,

love ann

Ann, are you trying to tell me that you are not having a midwife visit until Thursday? You've just had a section and little Ali's jaundiced ... I am quite shocked that you're not having a visit tomorrow. Where we live a midwife would definitely come out every day given your circumstances

You really have had some appalling treatment with this pregnancy and birth

Love Liz x

I to am shocked, i had a vist from my MW for two weeks first week every day, then every other day as all was well.

The health care system Ann does not sound good at all where you are, cannot believe they are leaving you to cope like that

I hope Ali will be ok real soon and take care of yourself
