I took lucy for her assessment today. The dr we saw was really nice and Lucy took to her straight away and was very relaxed. This is not always the case but it was nice to see Lucy feeling comfortable as I would have felt guilty otherwise.
Anyway, we were there for nearly an hour and afterwards the dr said she didn't really think there was much to be concerned about. She said Lucy showed a couple of markers for ASD but nothing very clear. So we came away with some questionnaires to fill in, and one for the school and she is making Lucy an appointment to see a speech therapist and we have to go back and see her in 6 months. I feel happy about how it all went and I would so like to believe that my daughter is just a little quirky, but part of me thinks this is still only the start. As I said before, I have an older son with Asperger's and he wasn't diagnosed until he was 12 yrs old. I guess I just have to play the waiting game and see if she continues to develop normally or not. Luckily the school (who contacted me about their concerns about Lucy) have been very understanding and are already putting things in action at school to help Lucy cope better. (i.e. she has a timetable so she knows exactly what she is supposed to be doing and what will happen next in the school day and they take her off 15 mintues before p.e. so she has more time to get changed as she's a little slow and gets worse in front of others, she also has a couple of one to one sessions with the SENCO) Not really sure how I feel myself, glad there's nothing to worry about right now but still have the gut feeling that it's not always going to be the case.
