Welcome finally after a traumatic few weeks to Adam Trevor Stephen Rainbird born on Novemeber 13th 2007 at 4.48am weighing 7lbs 12oz
Adams middle names are Trevor after dh;s dad and Stephen after my darling brother who passed away 2 years ago

as you all know i went through a pretty traumatic last few weeks of my pregnancy in and out of hospital many many scans as they were concerned about his weight being so big and that his heartbeat was erratic and that he never moved so i was put on to daily monitoring and kept in hospital many times ( i won’t bore you with those details you all know them already)
On wed’s the 7th i saw the registrar for dr yummy i was 37 weeks and was begging them to start me off as i was in a lot of pain but they were adamant that i would have to wait till 21st of November if i wanted a c-section they were not prepared to induce me as there was a risk to my previous c-section scar tearing what they could offer me at the time was if my cervix was suitable they would do a stretch and sweep on me which we agreed to do hoping that this would kick start things off . so i had this done and for the next few days all i had was niggly pains
well on Sunday the 11th i had been having some stomach pains during the day i just assumed they were the irritable uterus that the hospital had said i was suffering from and just ignored them they were not frequent more like painful braxton hicks i just assumed the stretch and sweep plus the raspberry leaf tea stuff i had been popping ( thanks to the lovely Louby lou) was doing it’s stuff anyway i was watching top gear and was feeling a little uncomfortable so i said to dh i’d go and have a bath see if this would ease them off as i had been getting them for a few days and taking a few pain-killers and a nice warm bath usually eased them off. Dh wanted me to call the hospital if i thought they were getting worse but seeing as though i was sick of going to the hospital every day and i was due to go for a scan on the monday i did’nt see the point. anyway i went and had a bath and they seamed to ease off so i popped myself in to bed and fell asleep i was woken about 12.30 with bad stomach pains which were coming about every 7 mins so i got Dh to phone the hospital and see what they said they told me to come straight in as with this being my 4th baby things might progress quite quickly so off we trundled again . we arrived at the hospital early hours of monday morning where i was taken straight to delivery suite and put straight on a monitor here they determined that the pains i were getting were contraction pains but they were only 1in every 10 mins i was then seen by a dr who because i was GBS+ would put a cannula in my hand and start to give me the anti B i needed incase things progressed i was then left to see what happened a start of a long night began. About 7am on monday morning the M/W came in to see me and said that they had decided to examine me and see what was happening turns out i was only 2-3cms dilated and nothing was happening so on this basis seeing as though i was still getting the contractions they would put me on to the ward and wait and see what happened during the day plus i was booked for a scan anyway where with the results of the scan they could determine what course of action to take.
I was given the scan at about 2.30pm here the said that he was’nt moving as much as they would of liked and that his approximate weight was just under 10lbs the snographer was going to recommend that we look in to delivering him.
I was sent back to the ward one of Dr yummy’s registrars came to see me and she had said that they had looked at the results and that seeing as though i was getting contractions even though they were not as close together they would wait a day or so and see what happened and see if i laboured myself if i had’nt then they would review the situation. so that’s how it stood i was being kept in and monitored again.
anyway dh turned up with my mum to visit me about 6pm and we decided to take a walk over to the hospital restaurant which is about a 10 mins walk through the corridors for a coffee so off we trundled me feeling fine we stayed in the restaurant till about 7.15 when i said to dh and my mum i wanted to go back as i was getting back ache and wanted to take a bath plus dh had been up all night with me and i thought he needed some sleep so we started to walk back just as i stood up i felt a pop and thought i had wet myself but on walking a few steps i realised my waters had broken well i had to laugh my mum starting panicking and running around like headless chicken dh took his jacket off to try to cover my now soaking wet trousers and i was trying to walk and leak water back to the ward.
I got back to the ward they took one look at me said “well tracy take it your water broke then “ i was then sent to my bed and told to go take a shower clean off i was asked if i had any pain and i did’nt the m/w was going to call the labour ward and see when they could get me down there as now my waters had broken i needed the antib’s for the GBS i sent dh home at this point to take mum home grab a shower and clean clothes and come back again.
I was taken to labour ward at 10.30pm where i was put on the monitor and hooked up to my anti b’s i was starting to get contractions every 5 mins at this point so my first taste of gas and air started the m/w who was dealing with us told me that she would do an internal see what the situation was and then make a plan of action i was still only 2-3 cms dilated nothing happening so i asked for an epidural stating that me and pain just don’t mix . the anaesthetist came in about 11pm to do my epidural after 2 attempts she got the needle in and my legs started to numb and i could’nt feel the tightening i had been getting so me was a happy bunny about 1am Kate the m/w looking after me said i am going to examine you again and see wether anything has changed if not we are going to look in to putting up a drip speed things up a bit i was 3-4 cms dilated so she said we’ll put the drip in anyway as your dilating so slowly we will still be here Tuesday lunch time.
the drip was put up i was also given a top of of epidural as i was starting to feel the pains which i thought was odd but kate said she thought that the first dose obviously was’nt enough anyway at 3am she examined me again and she said well we have gone to 6-7cms so she reckoned that he would be born by about 8amish about 4.15am i was getting really bad pains and was getting very uncomfortable and i told kate that i thought the epidural was’nt working and could i use the gas and air for a bit just to help take the edge off she said she would try to get in touch with the anaesthetist and find out why the epidural was’nt helping she went away i’m huffing a puffing like a mad woman she came back and said the anaesthetist was in theatre and that to give me gas and air if that helped and that she would be along shortly no sooner had she given me it all hell broke loose i screamed he’s coming kate said not yet i’m not ready by the time she had turned around and had gone to get her trolley and put her apron on i was already pushing him out she said to dh push the button and get me another M/W the baby;s head is already out 4 pushes and Adam was born it happened so fast that i went in to shock .
Dh and i looked at each other and then looked at the size of Adam and both said well he really looks 10lb he was so tiny and ladies you know how much he weighed i was then given Adam to hold whilst Kate took a look at the damage i had done to my self turns out with the fast delivery and that my precious boy had been born with his hand over his face i had ripped my bits to peices and needed stitches inside and out ( so very sore down there now)
Turns out also that indeed the epidural had'nt worked all it had done was numb my legs and take the edge of the contractions not get rid of the pain at all
as for the rest we know Adam took a while to feed i tried the breast he was’nt interested so after 17hrs of him not feeding i gave him a bottle we all know that i have just come out of hospital again with him as he was readmitted with Jaundice and needed the light therapy and some intense feeding plus i caught an infection in my nether regions
I am happy to say that now he seams to be doing much better he is back to his birth weight after he lost so much he went from 7lbs 12 to 7lbs 5 now he is 7lbs13 this morning. we registered him this morning so he official i’m hoping that he goes from strength to strength now and we can settle down to being a family.
I have been suffering a little with the baby blues been very tired and very tearful
I would like to say a huge thankyou toAnn and to Deee for keeping you all updated and for keeping me sane during the last few weeks. also thanks Ann for the text yesterday you stopped my tears made me see that i was’nt a failure and Dee for your call last night i needed that girly chat your both truly wonderful people
and lastly girls thankyou for all the love and support you have shown me since the start of my journey on the ttc road the heartache of many M/C and through the traumas of the last few weeks of my pregancy and to now me finally having my long for son.your all amazing and without this support i’d of gone stir crazy
And DH is talking about wanting another one me thinks not i told him lets get used to having Adam first before we go for it again LOL
